Avant sa mort, Steve Jobs voulait "enfermer les clients dans notre écosystème"

"Enfermer plus encore nos clients dans notre écosystème". Telle était la stratégie d'Apple résumée en interne par Steve Jobs, un an avant sa mort.

 
Dans le cadre du procès en contrefaçon que se livrent Apple et Samsung, la firme de Cupertino a dû subir la publication d'éléments de preuves saisis à la demande de son concurrent coréen. Parmi eux figurent un e-mail envoyé le 24 octobre 2010 par Steve Jobs, presque exactement un an avant sa mort
 
Le courriel relayé par Quartz détaille la vision stratégique de Steve Jobs et ce que devraient être les priorités d'Apple dans les années suivantes, en prévision de la convocation d'une réunion exceptionnelle baptisée "Top 100". Ainsi pour 2011, le patron d'Apple prédisait une "guerre sainte" contre Google, qui s'est effectivement manifestée avec le développement d'Android, et explique qu'il s'agit de la "raison principale" pour la convocation du Top 100.
 
Steve Jobs demandait ainsi à ce que iOS "rattrape Android là où nous sommes en retard (notifications, tethering, voix...) et le dépasse (Siri,...)". De même pour MobileMe, qui devait "rattraper les services de cloud de Google et les dépasser (Photo Stream, stockage en cloud)".
 
Estimant que 2011 serait "l'année du cloud", Steve Jobs mettait aussi en garde ses équipes contre le danger du "dilemme de l'inventeur" qui s'accroche trop longtemps aux innovations qui ont fait son succès.
 
A cet égard, il demandait à Apple de "lier tous nos produits ensemble, pour enfermer plus encore nos clients dans notre écosystème". L'e-mail donne ainsi du grain à moudre à tous ceux qui ont critiqué le modèle économique d'Apple, qui refuse toute interopérabilité de ses services et produits avec ceux de ses concurrents.
