Nota Bene : Andreas Jaffke, one of the cofounder of Optisoft S.L., the owner of
Blubster, answers our questions in the name of Pablo Soto.
Ratiatum.com : Hi
Pablo. Could you introduce yourself to our French visitors ?
Pablo Soto : My name is Pablo, 22 years old and programming
since I am 8 years old. I am a singer in a small unknown spanish band and I
love music. I was a big fan of Napster until its closedown last year when I
decided to built a p2p program from scratch with an improved technology to replace
Napster. I am a heavy Internet user and fascinated by the idea of p2p networks
and filesharing in general. What started as an experiment with some friends
of mine quickly has reached dimensions that I didn't even expect in my dreams.
Ratiatum.com : Blubster
is being considered as a possible new host for former
Audiogalaxy users. Do you think Blubster is able to answer this demand ?
Pablo Soto : Well, not only for former AG users but also for
any users looking for a high performing p2p network what has been designed in
a totally decentralized way and focuses 100% on mp3/audio. Look, Blubster uses
a proprietary network protocol built upon UDP, what for some guys out there
is the downside, as they have in some cases to configure firewalls or to ask
their ISP's to configure them to allow UDP and the crucial port 41170. Most
of these problems can be quickly solved by simply allowing UDP and port 41170
for incoming and outgoing traffic, period. The good news here is that version
2.0, I mean the official one to be released in a few days, maybe weeks, will
get rid of 98% of these connection problems. Blubster2.0 will simply connect
from anywhere. So what else could be interesting for ex AG users? Well, the
chat functionality, the buddy list, both in the "Community" tab, the
MD5 identification, most important for identifying the real music from faked
ones, a 30 times faster music scanner and up to 5 connection threads to optimize
downloads. The biggest advantage on the end is the scalability and intelligence
of our network organization. There is actually no limit for simultaneous users.
We calculated that even 1.000.000 (One million!) simultaneous users could be
easily connected without significant performance problems. So ex AG users welcome
to Blubster is all we can say!
Ratiatum.com : Blubster only enables to share mp3 files. Do you think p2p softwares
should specialize as you've done ?
Pablo Soto : We believe that there are always two options:
The "Do everything cheap/low quality solution" and "The do one
thing correct and focus/high quality solution". We have decided to focus
on quality and to built an either "heavy" application focused on only
audio to be able to offer more than just a tool for interchanging music. Blubster
is 100% user community driven. We want that our users activly participate and
decide what Blubster is and will be. That will make Blubster the N1 on
the Internet concerning Music sharing. The internal player for instance is great
for newcomers. They connect, search, click and listen. Keep it simple but keep
it good are our principles. Blubster in fact will not share any other filetypes
at the moment, that only depends on the mayority of our users, we will ask them
first.
Ratiatum.com :
The v2.0 has just been released. Do you already plan improvements in future
versions ?
Pablo Soto : Ok, to be correct, we have not yet launched the
offical version. The one you comment, is the first beta, but we are positive
to launch the official evrsion soon. There will be some surprise for all of
you, besides the features I commented we will add some security options for
our users, so stay tuned ;) Improvements further ahead can be the support of
newer audio formats and , obviously improved Interface, usability, new languages.
Ratiatum.com :
Any final word to add ?
Pablo Soto : Merci beaucoup au Ratiatum.com pour laissez-nous
responder a cettes questions et bonne chance pour toutes les utilizeurs de la
web! We would also like to announce that French will be one of the languages
that will soon be added to future Blubster versions. Thank you very much again
and all the best for Ratiatum.com!
