We were very impressed with the new headphones from Sennheiser in our brief look and now getting a chance to look and listen further in a number of different situations we are happy to report back that the PXC 450s are very good.
In our initial test, it looked like you weren't able to remove the cable if you weren't using the headphones with a music source.
Now having had more time to play it, you can, making this great for getting some peace and quiet on the plane.
Overall it looks like our first look was spot on. The AAA battery support, talk option and ability to run the headphones without noise cancelling make this a great alternative, if not a better recommendation than the Bose Quiet Noise 3.
Offering the best noise cancelling out of any pair of headphones we've heard, Sennheiser's PXC450 offer a great choice for frequent travellers; just make sure you can charge the hefty cost back to your company.
Sennheiser's PXC 450 is, without doubt, a first-class pair of headphones. They're supremely comfortable, the noise-cancelling works extremely well, the clarity, detail and frequency response are simply superb, and the talk-through function is a really useful bonus. Not only that, but the build quality is second to none.
But as with all expensive audio gear, it comes down to a case of personal preference in the end. And though there's nothing wrong with these headphones, the lack of meaty bass coupled with relatively high impedance and their sheer bulk means that they won't be everyone's cup of tea.
